We would like to introduce KBF, the Kelly Brush Foundation, a beneficiary of the Marin Cyclists. The Executive Director of KBF Edie Perkins will join us for this ride with her adaptive handcycle, giving us an opportunity to see firsthand how athletes with SCIs can cycle too. After the ride we'll meet at Big Rock for a post-party and raffle for some swag!
Did you know there are 18,000 new spinal cord injuries cases in the US every year. KBF empowers folks who suffer from a spinal cord injury by making an active lifestyle more reachable for them; “an active lifestyle fuels a healthy body and mind, allowing people to be fuller versions of themselves.”
Kelly Brush herself is the embodiment of her foundation. She experienced a spinal cord injury during an NCAA alpine ski race in her sophomore year in college. Today she is a mother of 2, wife, pediatric nurse practitioner and she lives an active life enjoying sports like skiing, cycling, golf, tennis and surfing with adaptive sports equipment.
Last year KBF gave nearly $1M in grants, hosted adaptive camps and events that brought together 400 attendees, reached 12,000 users on its online community called The Active Project and worked to prevent potential injuries by supporting Alpine racing clubs in purchasing equipment to make the courses safer."
