A climber's delight, To The Guardrail or To The Top. Come out to Sonoma county with us and scale the famous Pine Flat Road. The route is designed by an experienced Marin Cyclists member who knows the area well, Jan Lau. The Leisurely Paced 45 mile route includes the Pine Flat Rd climbing portion to the guardrail but omits the Geyserville north section. Both the Social Pace and Moderate Pace routes are similar with the difference being how much of Pine Flat Road you want to conquer. We begin at Esposti Park and roll our way to the main event of the day.
**Leisurely A Pace/Hilly Rating (9mph-11 mph overall pace for the entire course including the climbs) will be led by Joe Mulligan. Up to the guardrail on the Pine Flat Rd Climb, 45 miles, +3,400'. Map This route is similar to the base Social Pace route but omits the northern portion to Geyserville by taking Alexander Valley Road towards Healdsburg.
**Social AB Pace/Hilly Rating (12.0-13.9 mph; 15-18 mph on the flats) will be led by Jan Lau. To The Guardrail: 61 miles, +4,200' climbs. Map The ride speed is for the entire route and includes all climbing. Please gauge your cycling endurance conservatively. You should be able to ride comfortably for 60-65 miles with 4,000' of climbs at about 13 mph.
Climb segment: 6.8miles/+2,031/5.5% average gradient
**Moderate B Pace and Brisk C Pace/Very Hilly Rating (14.0-16.0 mph+). Suggested route is to go "To The Top": 70 miles, +5,600'. Map This route takes you on Pine Flat Road past the guardrail all the way to the top. There is a first summit at +2,160' elevation. You catch your breath for about 2 miles then it's a serious, not kidding around +1,000' climb with a 2 mile stretch that averages 10.5% gradient.
***The B and C pacing groups will be Participant led. Please provide your own navigation.***
